Veg Box Newsletter 12/05/17

Morning Folks,

May’s Munch of the Month competition is now open for entries. To be in for a chance of winning a beautiful hamper of ethical goods from our shop, simply share a photo of your veg box creation on social media with the tags #locavoremm and #locavorevegbox.

In growing news, our growers and volunteers have been sowing courgette and cucumber seeds, as well as planting out Sutherland and Cavalo Nero at Left Field. The caravan has been fitted with a new woodburning stove for WWOOFers. Doro and our new growers at The Croft are looking forward to the rain that’s forecast for the coming week, as they’ve been watering all the raised beds by hand every day for the past week!

We’ve had a walk-in chiller installed in the warehouse this week, which meant that Thursday’s huge harvest of rocket and spinach could be packed straight in there, keeping it as fresh as possible.

Unfortunately we’re unable to source any UK grown organic onions, and as you might have noticed already, we’re replacing them with leeks. Per kg, they are far more expensive, and as they tend to be heavier, it means that there might be only one leek per standard veg box, and we’ve had to omit them completely from the small veg bags this week. We will have onions available to order through the Open Food Network should you require them, however they are from Holland.

We’re pleased to be stocking Isle of Wight grown tomatoes from The Tomato Stall, and in all the veg boxes this week, there’s a mix of heirloom varieties.

As it’s the second Friday of the month, we’re delivering cheese boxes. We offer three sizes; small £20; standard £37.50; and large £55. They all contain a selection of delicious, UK produced cheeses, including a standard cooking cheese, cow or ewe cheese and a blue cheese. If you’d like to add one to your order, get in touch!
