Hello Folks,
As we’re in low season in terms of our own farm produce, we thought we’d give you an idea of what this means. Still growing kale and hardy leaves over the coming months, our amazing growers have been working the soil where the crops have ran out, and built winter beds. They use a low-tillage system which means they never invert the soil. They rotate the crops to preserve the quality and diversity of life in the soil. They’ve planted out lots of little seedlings (leaves, spring onions and herbs) and covered them up for next year. They are also raising some beautiful Scottish garlic which we will start to see next summer – we can’t wait!
Chard grown and harvested by Pam Bowers and her team at Strawberry Fields features in all of this week’s veg boxes. Situated in Lincolnshire, Pam grows a wonderful range of produce from salad and cooking greens to herbs to squashes of all imagineable varieties! This week we took delivery of a new batch of veg boxes, with a new design which includes both the Living Wage Foundation and the Soil Assocation logos (as we’re officially a certified veg box scheme!). Please remember to leave them out for collection on your delivery day for us to reuse.
