Veg Box Newsletter w/c 08.04.19

Hello Folks,

Across the country our star winter crop, kale has gone to seed– so it must be spring now! Luckily we’ve got some other Locavore greens making an appearance this week to give us our fix. Macleod Organics Invernessshire rhubarb is also looking beautiful, pink and crumble ready. If you’d like to try making something a little more creative, try these vegan recipes. We’ve also found some good tips on how to store rhubarb.

Thank you for your continuous support of the Good Food Fund. We have recently started supporting Gal Gael in Govan. Their wood workshop runs a bench training scheme and your donations go towards providing a hot lunch for the participants of the programme. This training scheme is open to people who have been unemployed for 6 months or more, but Gal Gael prioritise participants who have been unemployed for 3 years or more. Many families in the Govan area have been affected by long term unemployment in several generations since the decline of the ship building industry – a very good reason to support the work of Gal Gael. Find out more about them here: https://www.galgael.org/

Congratulations to last month’s Munch of the Month winner, Joe, whose veg box dish (pictured below) of oven baked spring rolls with turnip, carrot, beetroot, kale and eggs wrapped in rice paper proved most popular with the most votes amongst the Locavore team. Joe will be sent a hamper of goodies from the shop with his next veg box.

This week we’re delivering Vegan Chilled Boxes and Cheese Selections alongside our veg boxes. You can find more information about our monthly specials here, as well as their delivery schedule. If you’d like to add one to your order, drop us an email at subscribers@glasgowlocavore.org.
