Veg Box Newsletter for 9th December 2019: Potatolitics

Hello Folks,

What are you eating on election night? Something soothing to calm the nerves, like a creamy swede mash with sausages? Or something invigorating and peppery like a watercress soup? I think I’ll make a pizza so I can work out my worry on the dough. Perhaps a potato pizza, as it’s delicious enough to take my mind off exit polls and policies and occupy me with lovely things, like how close by the potatoes were grown. It’s a diffiicult world a-whirl with worry, but we can draw in close around the warming glow of tasty veg, united for once by the belief that everyone deserves to eat well and well for the world.

Wreaths and Hampers!

This week, Christmas wreaths and hampers are avaliable on the Open Food Network for delivery with your veg box. This is one-week-only scenario, so get those orders in! The wreaths are gorgeous, a wonderful way to welcome the festive season into your home, and the hampers are an easy way to win the best-present award from the organic fanatic in your life!

Also new to the OFN is Oat Milk from Minor Figures, which is sourced here in the UK. It’s formulated for coffee, so give it a try if your morning joe needs a little something. We’re still offering the organic Oatly milk, but why not try this local version? It’s also avaliable for subscription, so if you want it with every delivery, get in touch.

✨ 🎄 Christmas 🎄 ✨

Good Food Fund

In the month of November the Good Food Fund sent out £1297.38 worth of fruit and veg to charities that work with people living in food poverty. Your donations support a variety of the most vulnerable communities in Glasgow, such as people who are homeless or have addiction backgrounds, long term unemployed people gaining access to the labour market as well as asylum seekers and refugees. Thank you for your continued support in making this work happen.

You can donate via the Open Food Network shop, or email us to set up a recurring donation.

Monthly Specials

This week, we’ve got the Vegan boxes and the Cheese selections making their way to your homes, packed full of goodies! If you’d like to try one in the new year, give us a shout.

Both the (very christmassy!) Treat Boxes and the (as christmassy as I can make them) Pulse, Grain, and Pasta boxes will be going out with the deliveries in the week commencing 16th December, so you’ll need to let us know as soon as possible if you’d like to try one then.

Check out storage guidance here for helpful tips and tricks on how to prolong the life of your fresh produce. If you’re wondering where your veg comes from, have a look at these maps. You can also join your fellow subscribers over in the Facebook group and check out our Veggiepedia!
